At the heart of Trixel Creative is a team of learners, players, and creators. United by a passion to create, and an admiration of platforms that allow others to do the same, we've been gathering creative minds and talents from across the world. The result of their hard work and talent has led us to the creation of Restitched, a 2.5D, UGC platformer game with a charming art style and robust creation tools, seamed together by ambitious plans and all-around fun. Trixel Creative isn't just developing a game for the community... we are the community!
We are on the hunt for even more creatives to join the cause and help us build this ambitious new project. You can find more details on that at the bottom of this post!
Please keep in mind that this is an early preview into a new project from Trixel Creative and its incredibly talented team of developers. Due to the early nature of the game, there are bound to be many changes and improvements over the course of development.
Anything you see here may not be representative of the quality or content of the final product.
Handmade with love, Stuffy is an adorable crafted bear with a knack for adventure and a passion to create... and did we also mention that Stuffy absolutely loves to play dress-up?
Stuffy as a character is unique and charming, but is also a blank canvas. With no preset gender or permanent characteristics, every costume piece and outfit will react differently with the player model.
The best thing about our little friend is that their signature bear look can change to much more, allowing your character to become various animals and characters by removing and/or swapping a few of Stuffy's characteristic bear features.
Using the collectible giftboxes you've picked up throughout your gameplay in the adventure mode, you will be able to adorn Stuffy with a unique look fit just to your liking!
You can choose from a wide variety of pre-made outfits, transforming Stuffy into something like a wolf, a dragon, a posh bee, a rancher, etc. You can even mix-and-match individual collected cosmetic pieces to create your own favorite look.
With many individual costume pieces, full outfits, and access to decals and ornaments, the possibilities for player customization toddle toward never-ending!
At the heart of every good User-Generated Content (UGC) game is a robust editor! Restitched is no different, and that's why we're busy creating our own robust level editor called "Construction Mode". In this area of the game, you will be able to construct your own levels and creations to share with others.
Construction Mode will offer all of the inner-tinkering needed to build your own experiences, just as we are with the game's full Story Mode. Every Construction Mode tool and feature at our disposal are the same ones any player can use to conjure up their own masterpieces with. Place down logic, materials, toys/objects, ornaments, decals, and lots of other asset types.
You can use the Construction Mode as a fun sandbox to mess around in with friends (or solo), or use it as a serious creation tool to make well-thought-out masterpieces with. Every community-made experience will drive the game forward, and we're really excited to see what people will make with it!
Construction Mode is the largest task our team has ever taken on with any project, and we want to really get it right. This robust editor is the foundation of Restitched, and, because of this, we aren't quite ready to reveal our plans for it just yet. Just know that when we are ready to show and tell you more, we absolutely will... and are very eager to!
A large part of your Restitched experience will be based around the "Craftbook". Think of the Craftbook as Stuffy's personal catalog/journal, and your personal inventory. The Craftbook is filled to the brim with pages and sections full of options, settings, tools, construction materials, useful resources, features, and more.
The Craftbook takes on different roles depending on whether you're accessing it while playing, or from Construction Mode. To make sifting through the vast amount of content much quicker and more efficient, we've added a very special search tab that will allow you to find anything and everything you may need to customize your levels and experience in Restitched.
One of the many worldwide themes you'll explore in our story/adventure mode is The Rolling Acres, which is a quaint farmstead situated somewhere in the rural south of the United States. What Stuffy will get up to in this theme, who you will help, and the overarching story plot is something we are not ready to share just yet! Until then, most of the reveal content you see here takes place in the Construction Mode background for the farm theme, and some assets for the theme may pop up here as well.
Our focus is on the foundation of the game and the level editor that allows us to build this playable story, which will also serve as a living, breathing example of Restitched's Construction Mode capabilities. By playing through our adventure you will see first-hand how the editor can be used in different ways to make a fun challenge, an engaging story, or something else entirely. We will also be loading your Craftbook with new cosmetics and Construction Mode assets as you collect Gifts (in the form of Gift boxes) in the story levels themselves.
The entire game will be playable with your choice of either a mouse and keyboard setup, or a compatible controller. However, you may find that Construction Mode offers unique advantages to the full range of controls only available with a mouse and keyboard setup.
There's still a long way to go, and a lot of features to be sorted through. The game will continue to grow and evolve, shaping into something even more refined and unique.
As we work through many ideas, pitching them to the team and making sure everyone is on the same page is a huge part of the creative process. The best way to communicate an idea is to visualize it, and that's where concept art is most useful!
Take a small peek at some of the concept art we've created for Restitched, and perhaps you'll have a better idea of our vision for the game and what's going on behind the scenes!
DISCLAIMER: These are concepts, meaning they are in no way accurate representations of what may or may not be added to the game. Assume everything is subject to change!
Our team has a lot of amazing creators! We are all working toward the same goal, and a lot of free time goes into creating this project and every detail inside it. This is the first time we've taken on a project of this scale, and we are very excited to make our own unique mark in the world of gaming.
As a diverse set of community members ourselves, we understand what it means to be a creator, and how important creative games, tools and platforms are to help people realize that, they too, are a creator. We've all discovered and/or improved our skills through previous experience with UGC-based games, and we want to extend that same experience and feeling to future creators on PC.
Some of the amazing creators who have worked to make Restitched a reality:
Shoutout to Hanbury 3D (by team member Ethan/MIMECH2).
"Hanbury 3D" was responsible for collaborating with the team to create the main character model, Stuffy, as well as several skin textures and costumes.
Want to help us build this ambitious project and tool for future creatives? Please do! Trixel Creative is a team made up of hobbyists and creatives with various skills, including some members who we consider to be a jack-of-all-trades. We welcome many types of talent, and a little bit of everything is needed in game development!
We require all inquiries to come with a portfolio link. Team signups can only be submitted once per role, so be sure you've prepared the work you are most proud of!
If you're interested in joining the project to help out, please visit our "Join the Team" section of the site. From there you will find all currently-needed roles that need to be filled. By joining the team under a main role, that doesn't mean you cannot also dip into other areas to help out. All effort is appreciated!
We are passion-drive community members embarking on our first quest to create a video game title for others to enjoy. We don't currently offer any monetary compensation for working on the project, which means you'd be volunteering your time and effort out of passion and interest. However, it's excellent for personal portfolios!
Now that we've introduced Stuffy and Restitched, we bet you have a lot of questions!
To answer the most popular question:
We don't 100% know the distribution plan for the game yet, since development is very early right now! Distribution includes monetization and the platform in which it will be published on. However, we can say that we are trying to work with Steam's SDK tools in mind!
Beyond what we've just announced here, we aren't ready to share more yet. Be sure to keep an eye out for any future news and announcements. Otherwise, you know everything so far based on what you've just read here!
You can find us on many social platforms, but our most active and engaging platform is our official Discord server. If you'd like to check out what's going on with our projects, chat to your heart's desire, or want to partake in community events, then our Discord server is the place to be!
Want to support Restitched and our platform?
You can find the "Support Us" tab in the site's navigation menu. Restitched is an original project, so any donations can be used to cover potential engine plugins and assets needed for development, storage space to host project files on, domain fees for our platform and website, and more. Donations never go toward any one person, and are not taken as personal profit. They always go toward benefiting our platform and future! :)
Unfortunately, we write to you with some rather upsetting news. We've very recently received a cease and desist notice for our "LittleBigPlanet Restitched" project. The C&D comes from Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe, and states the reason for the take-down being "commercialization" of the project. We have complied with all regulations that were given to us, including the project being non-profit, but we ultimately have no legal say in the situation.
This comes as a bit of a surprise due to the continued interest and support of developers who were involved with the original series. We've been in contact with the LittleBigPlanet community manager from the start, who believed the project would be generally acceptable to make as long as it stayed non-profit and was always disclaimed to be a fan game. We were in the process of working with the community manager to reach out to Sony for further guidelines for the project, but before doing so, we received the cease and desist notice. We are very, very gutted by this news, as it's been everyone involved's dream to create a new nostalgic experience for the community.
This is not the end of our story, however. When starting this project we knew of the risk, and despite negative comments critiquing our reveal methods, we now know Sony's ultimate stance on the situation, and we can say we knew sooner rather than later. Because of this coming so early in development, we are now able to use our platform and project's framework to bring our alternate vision to life. From the start, we have occasionally reminded and prepared ourselves for this outcome, and now we are ready to shift gears and bring you a similar experience albeit in a different package.
"So, what does this mean?" you're probably asking yourself. This means that we are doubling our creative energy as a team to create something original and unique... Something that is inspired by our favorite franchise, but is all-new, and conjured up by the same team of community veterans and creators. Think of this new chapter as a homage to all like-minded UGC games. We've heard you loud and clear when you say there's nothing quite like it available for PC, and we're working to change that by creating what we believe will be a spiritual successor. This will not be a fan game or re-imagining like before, but instead a new indie passion project that will become an entirely new game that can stand on its own, and we hope to keep the same feeling and style that we all know and love. This re-imagining of the Restitched project might be a small bump in the road, but it will ultimately open new opportunities for Trixel Creative, its developers, and the community we continue to build through our content. With the restrictions of copyright being lifted, we can now focus on providing a multiplayer and social experience for the game; features our community have been very vocal about having. Additionally, we are now exploring other avenues for distributing the game.
The motivation and passion behind this project is overwhelmingly large. We are all united by our love of the same thing, and if there's anyone who understands what makes LBP special, it's our team of very talented creators and developers. We are confident that we can create an experience we'll all find familiar and special. LittleBigPlanet will always be there, and will always be a special source of inspiration for what we are making next.
So, thank you all so very much for being a part of this. Your support has pushed us a long way, and has changed everything for us. We're very grateful to have your support and encouragement, and only hope that you will join us as we continue to develop an all-new handcrafted experience. Just because this isn't LittleBigPlanet or Sackboy doesn't stop us from creating what we initially set out to make.
We are saddened by this news, but we are excited about the new opportunities it will present. We already have ideas and the cogs keep turning. We can't wait to show you all what you can expect in the near future, and how this change will benefit the players.
Because of the C&D notice, we were required to remove any mention of LittleBigPlanet Restitched from our platform. Namely, our website.
You can keep up-to-date by following our Twitter and Instagram accounts, keeping an eye on the website, and by joining our Discord server (news is usually posted there first).
Some of us are back from a short break, and our creative cogs are already turning for 2020! We had an excellent 2019, and in the last month of the year we grew our community by a nearly overwhelming amount. So, thank you for joining us and being part of our creative journey!
To start the year off, we have a few things we'd like to cover, including news and content:
You guys are incredible. We never anticipated such an overwhelmingly positive response to our project, especially in its early stages! We've heard you all loud and clear, and, although we are a small team, we are taking note of all of your suggestions and feedback for what you want to see in a LittleBigPlanet game.
Our team is very embedded in the history of the series, and are community members and creators themselves, so rest assured that we know the magic of the imagisphere very well, and we hope to recapture it in what we create from here going forward.
We have plans to bring the spirit of LBP to you via PC, and will talk about them soon.
Downloads Page Overhaul + New Media Kit
We've given the site's Downloads page a much-needed overhaul to fit with the aesthetic of our redesign. From the Downloads page you can find useful media and assets, such as our:
You can visit the Downloads page now to view our collection of growing content, including our new Trixel Creative Media Kit that will provide you with our signature patterned backgrounds, themed and standard logos, and various useful assets related to our platform.
New Store Merchandise
If you find yourself wanting to support us while still receiving some neat goodies, you can take a look at our site's Store page! On our Store page you can find a small selection of neat LBP and project-related designs for various merchandise items, or you can represent our platform by purchasing a Trixel Creative design on products like apparel, notebooks, stickers, and more. We also have a Tri-Expo logo for fans of the event!
Profits from our fan art designs (we're in the fan art program now, woohoo!), Trixel Creative designs, and project designs will go straight to our reserved money pool for the platform, where we hold funds to use for domain/site costs, web storage hosting, and more. Most t-shirt items will profit us with around $2-5 each.
By donating, you can help us afford our platform and our original projects' outsourcing. We may use the funds to purchase things like file hosting storage space, our web domain fees, and giveaway items to give back to the community. Your donation will be a one time payment and would help us immensely!
By clicking donate on our Donate page, you will be taken to a money pool on PayPal. This pool was created by a Trixel Creative owner and your donation will be stored away into a secure place only accessible by the Trixel Creative owners. Whether you spare $2 or $10+, we would be very appreciative, as every bit helps us to keep our platform running so that we can continue to offer amazing community creations for you!
Because of the fact that our projects may be based on existing intellectual property (fan games, in-game UGC content, etc.), we are not able to accept donations for those projects themselves due to legal reasons. Your funds will support our platform, such as our website and storage space, in which the projects are indirectly benefited by allowing us to share them with you!
New Trixel Creative Team Picks
The lovely community manager, Steven Isbell, has given our Tri-Expo spotlighted LBP3 projects a glorious pink rosette with this Friday's Team Picks.
Whack away those pesky minions in the Evergreen Park spin-off mini-game, "WHACK-A-BUBBLE!", or get a taste of LittleBigPlanet Restitched by playing our large sticker kit giveaway level, "'Restitched' Sticker Kit", where you can collect 80 new stickers to use in your own creations (all from LBPR itself)!
These levels are only available in LittleBigPlanet 3, and can be played right now!
New Growth (wow!)
Wow... Wow! No, seriously... WOW. You guys have blown our minds, and our numbers! Before Tri-Expo, our Discord server had around 280 members, and our Twitter following was around 980 followers. After Tri-Expo, our numbers shot up to 2,200+ server members and 1,900+ Twitter followers (and growing!).
We can't thank you enough for your support. Numbers mean nothing, but community means everything. Each and every one of you play an important role in allowing us to create and share the things that we do. Without you guys, LittleBigPlanet Restitched, our other projects, and our platform itself was only a dream. Thanks to our growing community we can make sure that our projects and platform are as well-supplied and well-maintained as we can make them, and that's a gift that will keep giving.
If you're new to Trixel Creative, be sure to check out our previous projects in LittleBigPlanet 2 and 3, and take a look around our site. You can find some really neat info and accolades on the "About Us" page!
To stay up-to-date on all things Trixel Creative, join our Discord server. It's where the cool kids hang out, and if you're not a cool kid, then you're... a less cool kid!
Our Discord server offers immediate access to chat with our community and team members, and we also post announcements and internal info and media there. We also host the occasional competitions where community members can enter to earn potential rewards like LBP DLC and physical items. We plan to do a lot of neat community activities soon, so come and check it out! We can't wait to chat with you. :)
