Restitched: 2026 Development Goals

We've been crafting this game for quite some time, as many of you know! As we head into a new year, we've been able to reflect on our milestones and the plans ahead. We're just as eager to wrap things up and deliver a fun game, but as a team of hobbyists, this can take a bit longer than some expect.

This year, we feel confident about where the game is headed in its current state and what's still on our to-do list. We've already come a long way since our Official Trailer one year ago, and with each passing month, we're starting to see the end more clearly!

Over the last 1.5 years, we’ve also been building The Wardrobe experience from scratch, and we truly believe the time and energy invested have been well worth it. Now, we’re excited to share that most of our intended work on the Restitched character customization system is complete! 🎉

This marks what is possibly the project's biggest development milestone yet. A major pillar of the game is now in a minimum shippable state, and we can focus our attention back to other areas in 2026.

Thanks to a wonderful team with creative minds and dedication, we've put a solid framework in place. This means many of our features and experiences from the Wardrobe can now be reused in other areas of the game. It also means it should be easy to revisit the Wardrobe and explore new ideas in the future, if players are interested.

Because the Wardrobe is so important to players, we'll continue to work with artists to polish, fix, and add assets throughout the rest of development.

Wardrobe Testing Wrap-Up

The Wardrobe Test will be ending in January (extended from December 31). At this point, we feel we’ve gathered more than enough incredibly valuable customization feedback from players. Seeing how creatively you’ve all interacted with this system has been motivating beyond words!!

Over roughly three months of testing, we’ve now made 400+ changes, additions, and fixes! Along the way, we introduced entirely new features that weren’t originally planned, added extra assets, and made several quality-of-life improvements based directly on player feedback.

In a relatively short span of time, the Wardrobe evolved from a stable prototype into an almost fully polished, launch-ready experience... and that’s thanks to the community!

What exactly have we been adding?

Well, check out the quick snippets below to see a preview!

Wardrobe Camera Controls

Expandable Craftbook View

Asset Recoloring + Secondary Color

Craftbook Searching

In-game Workshop Menu

We've managed to introduce many new features, like:

  • Camera controls (tilt and zoom)

  • Expandable Craftbook

  • Secondary recoloring option

  • Tutorial popups

  • Better searching

  • New assets

  • Improved Workshop UI

  • Stamp detection effects

  • and much more!

With this testing program, we’ve also:

  • Held our first large-scale playtest

  • Completed a major pillar of the game

  • Gained valuable insight into how you expect to play and interact with Restitched

But... What’s Next?

The road ahead is often challenging for any game's development, but also full of excitement and opportunity! With the Wardrobe mostly behind us and many of its systems reusable, we’ll be fully shifting focus in 2026 back to the core gameplay and level editing experience.

This includes continued work on core features like:

  • Physics connectors

  • The logic system

  • Improved player movement

  • More level editing tools

  • Creatures & combat

  • Multiplayer

  • Story cutscenes framework

  • Main menu polishing

  • ...and more!

Several of these systems already exist as early implementations or working prototypes, but they require time to be properly developed, refined, and integrated into a cohesive experience. Once these pieces start coming together, we’ll be looking into opening another playtesting opportunity.

In the very late stages of developing the game, we’ll also officially begin full production on story content, marking the final stretch of our planned development. It'll be during this stage that we can grow our team with more like-minded creatives, such as level designers. We've already begun revising our story with a writer on the team, and we think it's going to be really cool!

In the meantime, it's business as usual for 2026! We'll tinker away on these complex tasks until we've built the game we all wish to play... and hopefully sooner than later!

Timeline & Updates?

Unfortunately, we don’t yet have a concrete timeline for plans regarding features, tests, demos, or even a release.

Some features can take weeks, others can take months. Fixing one bug can introduce three more, and sometimes we face obstacles that require learning new things and thinking up creative solutions as a team.

Because of these factors, combined with the fact that we're learning hobbyists making the game in our spare time, we don't like to set promised timeframes that we might not meet. Instead, we'll take you along the journey with us and let your feedback shape the things we do.

Making Restitched is like making multiple games at once. Whereas most games can focus on being good at one thing, we have to prioritize being good at many things! In their own way, the wardrobe, level editor, gameplay, and story content are all like projects of their own... and they need to work well with each other.

We’re committed to keeping the momentum going as usual, and we'll aim to keep you informed on our progress through Restitched: Recapped! posts, Patreon, and via other announcements and opportunities.

Thank you again for being part of this journey. We truly couldn’t do it without you! 💜 Keep an eye on our social channels and Discord server for the usual development updates and opportunities as we push forward toward our remaining goals!
